6-4: Converting Units

Key Concept

You can often write measurements in more than one way. For example, 1 hour = 60 minutes.

You can express the relationship between the two equivalent measurements as a rate. The rate equals 1 and is called a conversion factor.

You can use a conversion factor to convert between two units of measure. Write the rate with the unit you are converting to as the numerator and the unit you are converting from as the denominator.
