You can adjust the representation of data so that the numbers are easier to work with, especially to find the equation of a trend line. Consider this movie ticket data.

Let the year 2000 equal Year 0. Then the year 2001 would be Year 2 and so on.

It will be easier to find an equation of the trend line using the second table.

The scatter plot shows worldwide movie ticket revenues (in billions of dollars) for the top-grossing movie for several years. The scatter plot suggests a linear association.
